Wherever we live we are not immune to disaster. Whether a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, fire, flood, or even a family emergency that may keep us away from home for an extended period of time, we need to be “pet prepared”. If something happened in the middle of the night, or while you are away from home tomorrow, would you be able to handle the situation quickly and calmly? Would you have any idea where to start? Or would you know what to do but wouldn’t have enough time to accomplish it? Remember the news stories, clips, and photos from hurricane Katrina, the earthquake in Haiti, and the latest earthquake and tsunami in Japan of the many families looking for their pets? Again, not everything can be prevented, but a good plan goes a long way in an unfortunate situation. Following is a link to the Humane Society’s web page that gives disaster preparedness information, tips, checklist, vital items to have ready ahead of time, as well as things to do after a disaster happens.
Our pets are part of our family. We’d be lost without them and they’d be lost without us. Take a look at the link and please, please, please get together with your family to create a plan and gather the necessary items now so you are as ready as possible should an adversity come your way.
We can’t control every variable but what we can plan ahead!
